Hangar X
Reclaim public space at Tempelhof Airport
Hangar X Planungswerkstatt #2 Selforganization & Commoning
What structures do we need to create to organize ourselves in a community and not fall into old patterns? Hangar X is a space in which we want to deconstruct the hierarchies of capitalism and replace them with methods of commoning. But what exactly is commoning? How do commoners think and how can we implement these ideas? What physical and digital spaces does self-organization need and how do we organize the care activities collectively and in solidarity? On Saturday there will be an input from Stavros Stavrides and Ana Méndes de Andés and a discussion of questions of community, care and solidarity. In a collaborative writing process we will then try to develop a common manifesto for the hangar. On Sunday we will explore decidim.org - an online tool for participatory democracy - which we can use for the development process of Hangar X.

Meeting Minutes
Day #1 Saturday 05 December
On Saturday December, 5th we invite you to join us in Hangar 1 for one hour on 3 workshop stations that are described following.
20min Station 1 : Design Principles and Criteria for HX
With the Manifesto in Progress, we outlined what is important to us in the city by means of given questions. In this section we want to look at how we can really achieve our standards. What concrete mea- sures, criteria, demands and structures must be implemented or set up to make the process more inclusive and democratic? In this station we want to deal more with the airport and the actual and site-specific conditions. We will also look at findings from the canceled partici- pation process.
20min Station 2 : Model making and spatial planning
Using an architectural model of one Hangar we will gain a new per- spective on the questions of space. How many coworking, workshops, and performance spaces fit in one hangar? What is the size of an as- semblea, a communal kitchen or an inside playground? And where could we locate some more intimate and calm spaces? Imagine we share a
big apartment and start filling it now with our furniture. With our hands, scissors and paper we will shape those different spaces, and by placing them we can try out different spatial organizations and get closer to a collective vision of a Hangar X.
20min Station 3 : Interview and conversation
Through 10 questions we will learn more about the different single perspectives that came together in this project. We will have the chance to discuss further your proposals for the Hangar X Open call and your experience through the workshops and we will also reflect together about the Hangar X project and its context. The interviews will be filmed to become part of a Hangar X short film but in case you prefer not to be filmed we will have a conversation with the camera off.
